The Attorney General promotes the involvement of both parents in their children’s lives by working with community groups, schools and hospitals.In the performance of their duties on behalf of Texas children, child support staff focus on efficiency, effectiveness and customer service.The requirements are as follows: A suit for divorce may not be maintained in this state unless at the time the suit is filed either the petitioner or the respondent has been: (1) a domiciliary of this state for the preceding six-month period; and (2) a resident of the county in which the suit is filed for the preceding 90-day period.
The court may not deny a change of name solely to keep the last name of family members the same.
The Attorney General’s office accepts applications from mothers, fathers and other individuals who request services.
